Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends. John 15:13
Early this morning, Ace and I drove to Baker Community Center to attend a flag-raising ceremony. It was a solemn, moving experience. My heart was filled when I realized it was a multi-generational gathering. Dozen of children, several Veterans, and a handful of young adults came together to pay tribute to our fallen heroes.
After the flag was raised, the solemn sound of Taps filled the streets of St. Charles. I think we all feel something when we hear those familiar 24 notes. It's the sound of finality and farewell. It's also the sound of freedom and bravery.
Driving home, I considered my freedom. What a gift.
Today is a good day to pause and reflect. We owe it to our fallen heroes to live a life of purpose. To see the good in one another. And to steadfastly fight to preserve our liberties for the next generation.
With heartfelt gratitude,
